The Volunteer
Fire Department Grant Program
The Volunteer Fire Department Grant program assists
volunteer fire departments in purchasing equipment and supplies that they
may otherwise not be able to afford. The grants are awarded using a
grading schedule that attempts to first fund departments with the fewest
resources to meet their needs and responsibilities. The criteria include:
- population and size of the fire district
- fire department's total budget
- number of fire runs
- proposed use of the grant
Additional criteria is that fire departments must report fires to the
State Fire Marshal's office for the year preceding the grant
application.
The Ohio Revised Code, Section 3737.24 and the Ohio Fire Code contain
requirements for the reporting of fires by local fire officials to the
State Fire Marshal. Taken together, the Revised Code and Fire Code
require fires to be reported to the Fire Marshal under the following
conditions:
- Fire is reported to the fire department and,
- A fatality or injury occured and,
- The fire was suspicious in nature or,
- The fire caused damage or destruction to proerty.
