Code Enforcement Bureau

Welcome to the Code Enforcement Bureau, a Bureau of the State of Ohio’s Fire Marshal’s Office.

The Code Enforcement Bureau provides services for a variety of customers, both internal and external. The Code Enforcement Bureau conducts inspections of buildings, structures, and other places, the condition of which may be dangerous from a fire safety standpoint to life or property, or to property adjacent to buildings, structure or other places. The Code Enforcement Bureau conducts inspections of a variety of facilities such as:

  • Hotels and Motels

  • Nursing Homes

  • Rest Homes

  • Psychiatric and Maternity Wards

  • Fireworks Facilities

  • Newly Constructed State-Owned Facilities

The Code Enforcement Bureau also processes Flammable and Combustible Liquids Stationary Tank and Piping Permit Applications for the installation, removal, alteration, temporary out of service and abandonment of underground storage tanks which are not regulated by BUSTR or the local fire code official and aboveground storage tanks which are not regulated by the local fire code official.

In addition, the Code Enforcement Bureau processes Air Supported Temporary Membrane Structures, Tents and Canopies Permit Applications  for any air supported temporary membrane structure or tent in excess of 200 square feet or a canopy in excess of 400 square feet on state-owned properties and on properties which are not regulated by the local fire code official.
