Why: More than two thirds of Ohios more than 1,200 fire departments are staffed by volunteer firefighters. Increased demands on these departments for round-the-clock staffing is putting a strain on their ability to effectively provide fire safety services.
In response to the volunteer fire services concerns over the ability to adequately provide 24-hour protection, the Office of the State Fire Marshal has organized a statewide recruitment effort. At the center of this effort is the partnership with the National Volunteer Fire Council to provide 1-800-FIRELINE, a number that puts Ohioans interested in volunteering for the fire service in touch with local volunteer departments.
The State Fire Marshal has developed three, 30 second public service announcements for television to promote 1-800-FIRELINE. Those videos will be shown and copies will be available for media that attend.
