DIRECTOR OF COMMERCE DONNA OWENS TO PRESENT
"INVESTING FOR YOUR FUTURE" PROGRAM TO CHARDON H.S. STUDENTS
Donna Owens, director of the Ohio Department of Commerce, will deliver her "Investing For Your Future" presentation to students at Chardon High School on Thursday, May 14 beginning at 1:50 p.m. The school is located at 151 Chardon Avenue, Chardon.
Thursday's event is being held in conjunction with Governor George V. Voinovich's regional cabinet day in Lake, Geauga, Cuyahoga and Lorain counties.
As Director of Commerce, Owens oversees one of the state's primary regulatory agencies. The Department regulates Ohio's state-chartered financial institutions as well as many industries involved in financial transactions such as real estate and securities. It also enforces the state's building and fire codes.
In light of national reports highlighting the lack of financial knowledge of high school students, Director Owens is taking opportunities to speak with high school students about their financial futures and how they can wisely manage their money.
The "Investing For Your Future" presentation will include tips on how to manage credit cards and avoid credit card debt. The Director will also give examples of how saving and investing can enhance the student's long term financial goals.
Note: Media interested in attending should report to the school's office prior to the presentation.
