DIRECTOR OF COMMERCE DONNA OWENS TO PROVIDE
PERSONAL FINANCE TIPS TO AVON HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS
Donna Owens, director of the Ohio Department of Commerce, will provide personal finance tips to students at Avon High School on Friday, November 21 at 2 p.m. The school is located at 3075 Stoney Ridge Road, Avon.
As Director of Commerce, Owens oversees one of the state's primary regulatory agencies. The Department regulates Ohio's state-chartered financial institutions as well as many industries involved in financial transactions such as real estate and securities. It also enforces the state's building and fire codes.
In light of national reports highlighting the lack of financial knowledge of high school students, Director Owens is taking opportunities to speak with high school students about their financial futures and how they can wisely manage their money. Last year, Department employees presented a similar program to students at the Northwest Career Center in Columbus, the Department's adopted school.
The personal finance session will include tips on how to manage credit cards and avoid credit card debt. The Director will also give examples of how saving and investing can enhance the student's long term financial goals.
Note: Media interested in attending should report to the school's office prior to the personal finance session.
