UNCLAIMED FUNDS OWNER LIST TO APPEAR IN TUESDAY'S JOURNAL-NEWS
Current and former Butler County residents can
check the Hamilton Journal-News on Tuesday, March 26, to find out if
they are entitled to a piece of the $505,735.79 in unclaimed funds turned over
in the county in the past year,
Ohio Department of Commerce Director Gary C. Suhadolnik announced today.
Division of Unclaimed Funds Superintendent David
L. Moore defines unclaimed funds
as monies or the rights to monies that have been that have been dormant or
forgotten. Some common examples
include: dormant checking and savings accounts, forgotten rent and utility
deposits, uncashed checks, undelivered stock certificates, uncashed insurance
policies and forgotten layaway deposits.
“This special insert will be a quick and easy
way for people to check their names for funds they may have forgotten about or
didn’t know they were entitled to,” Director Suhadolnik said. “Last fiscal year alone, this campaign
helped the Division of Unclaimed Funds return $28 million to more than 30,000
claimants.”
The Butler County special insert will include 1,524
unclaimed funds accounts of $50 or more for individuals whose last known
address was in Butler County. The
advertised names will appear in alphabetical order by the owner’s last known
city and then in alphabetical order by the owner’s last name. While the insert will include only those
individuals with rights to accounts turned over in the past year, a
comprehensive list can be found at the Division’s Web site at www.com.state.oh.us along with forms for
individuals and organizations to use in claiming their monies.
In
addition to printing the claim form from the Web site, those who find
their name listed can also request a form by submitting the
coupon contained in the insert. When
the Division receives the coupon, a claim form will be mailed asking the
respondent to provide evidence supporting the claim.
Including the
accounts being advertised, the Division is holding a statewide total of more
than 2 million accounts worth approximately $300 million. Superintendent Moore encourages current and
former Ohio residents to visit the Web site to see if they have funds waiting
to be claimed. In addition, individuals
can write to the Division of Unclaimed Funds and provide the full name to be
researched, along with the counties in which the person may have resided. The Division’s address is 77 South High
Street, 20th Floor, Columbus, OH
43266-0545. Individuals can also
contact their county treasurer’s office where advertisements for previous years
and lists of accounts under $50 are often available for review.
