NEW INVESTOR EDUCATION PUBLICATIONS AVAILABLE

Ohio Division of Securities Web Site Promotes Investor Education

To assist Ohioans in understanding the investment process, the Ohio Department of Commerce’s Division of Securities is introducing several new investor education publications.

“Especially during a time of uncertainty in the financial markets, it is important for Ohioans to understand the basics of investing,” said Ohio Securities Commissioner Debbie Dye Joyce.  “Our investor education publications help take some of the mystery out of the investing process.”

As Ohio’s observance of Saving and Investing Education Month comes to a close, the Division of Securities is announcing the addition of four new investor education publications:

10 Tips for Online Investors – explains how an online transaction is conducted and how investors can protect themselves in the process.

How To Check Out Your Stockbroker or Brokerage Firm – explains how investors can check if a stockbroker or brokerage firm is properly licensed and if there has been any disciplinary actions taken against them.

Promissory Note Brochure – warns investors to beware of promissory notes, which often are advertised as investments with high returns and low risk.  In fact, the notes can be very risky and are often fraudulent.

Web Bookmark  -- encourages Ohioans to bookmark the Division’s web site (www.securities.state.oh.us/Information/Info.html) on their personal computer for easy access to the Division’s investor education materials.

During Saving and Investing Education Month and throughout the year, these new publications and the following publications (except for the promissory note brochure and bookmark) are available on the Division of Securities web site at www.securities.state.oh.us or by calling the Division’s Investor Protection Hotline at 800-788-1194 (or 466-4100 in central Ohio):
