STATE FIRE MARSHAL ANNOUNCES FIRE EXPO TO BE HELD IN JUNE

State Fire Marshal Robert R. Rielage announced today that his office will hold a fire safety expo in conjunction with a “fire muster” sponsored by the Central Ohio Antique Fire Apparatus Association on Saturday, June 9th from 11 am. until 3 p.m.  Both events will run simultaneously at the State Fire Marshal’s facility and home of the Ohio Fire Academy at 8895 East Main Street, Reynoldsburg. Members of the general public and media are invited and encouraged to attend.

Last April, the Ohio’s State Fire Marshal’s office celebrated its 100th anniversary by providing Ohioans with a day of worthwhile, educational and memorable events at their Reynoldsburg facility.  The event was attended by hundreds of Ohio families, firefighters and fire service enthusiasts.  This year, the Fire Marshal is joining with the Central Ohio Antique Fire Apparatus Association to provide even more events and hands-on activities for young and old.

Marshal Rielage announced that the festivities have been planned with families in mind and will include demonstrations, interactive stations, static displays and other activities.  The Fire Marshal’s arson dogs will demonstrate their extraordinary detection abilities. The Columbus Division of Fire’s bomb squad and robot will provide a demonstration of their techniques.  Static displays will include a life flight helicopter, 1-800 FIRELINE (volunteer firefighter recruitment) information and an information booth on each Fire Marshal Bureau (investigations, code enforcement, fire prevention, forensic laboratory and the bureau of underground storage tank regulation).

There will be interactive programs designed specifically for children including a “search and rescue” maze, a “crawl under smoke” exercise, a 911 simulator, a “know two ways out” lesson, Sparky the Fire Dog and fire clowns.  Fire apparatus, both modern and antique, from around the state will also be featured across the grounds of the Ohio Fire Academy.
