Five Area Fire Departments to Receive Grants from State Fire Marshal
State Fire Marshal Robert R. Rielage will present fire grants to five Scioto County volunteer fire departments in a ceremony to be held at the Rosemount Fire Department, 1129 Orm Avenue, Portsmouth at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 13th.
The grants are part of $1.78 million in grants being awarded to small and volunteer departments by the State Fire Marshal for training and equipment.
The grants will be presented to:
- Chief Eric Kratzer of the Otway Fire Department, who will receive $8,000 towards the purchase of self-contained breathing apparatus.
- Chief Pete Gemperline of the Rosemount Fire Department, who will receive $8,000 towards the purchase of firefighter protective clothing.
- Safety Prevention Officer Eric Brown of the Rubyville Fire Department, who will receive $7,960 towards the purchase of self-contained breathing apparatus.
- Chief James Justice of the Vernon Township Volunteer Fire Department, who will receive $7,454 towards the purchase of firefighter protective clothing.
- Chief Brock Entler of the Washington Township Fire Department, who will receive $8,000 towards the purchase of pumps, hose and other equipment.

The Division of State Fire Marshal is part of the Ohio Department of Commerce. The Fire Marshal's Office trains firefighters, enforces the Ohio Fire Code, investigates the cause and origins of fires and explosions, provides fire prevention programs, and performs other services. Other Commerce divisions enforce regulations regarding industrial compliance, financial institutions, liquor, real estate, securities, unclaimed funds, worker safety and wage issues.
