ARSON FIRE PROGRAM PLANNED FOR OHIO MEDIA

State Fire Marshal holds informative event during National Arson Awareness Week (May 1-7,2000)

 

WHO: State Fire Marshal Robert Rielage and members of his Investigations Bureau, Forensic Laboratory and Canine Unit.

WHAT: A two hour program designed to help media better understand the process of investigating a fire. The program will focus on

WHEN: Tuesday, May 2nd from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

10:00 - 11:00 a.m. Seminar on the dynamics of a fire investigation,
arson investigation and use of polygraph, lab samples, interviews and fire science techniques to determine the cause and origin of a fire.

                              11:00 -11:30 a.m. Arson dog demonstration

                              11:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Forensic laboratory tour

12:00 - 12:30 p.m. One on one interviews with State Fire Marshal Rielage, Chief Deputy Fire Marshal Terry Weber, Chief of Investigations Charles McGrath, Chief of the Forensic Laboratory Mohammed Gohar and several investigators.

WHERE: State Fire Marshal’s facility, 8895 East Main Street, Reynoldsburg

NOTES: Ohio’s State Fire Marshal’s office recently celebrated its 100th Anniversary and is the oldest continuous office of its kind in the United States. Since its inception, the State Fire Marshal’s office has battled the crime of arson across the state. In 1998, Ohioans experienced 4,393 arson fires resulting in 10 deaths, 101injuries and nearly $41,000,000 in property loss.
