BLAINE BROCKMAN NAMED HUMAN RESOURCES CHIEF

FOR THE OHIO DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE

Director of Commerce Gary C. Suhadolnik has appointed Blaine Brockman as the new Human Resources Chief for the Department.

"I am pleased to have Blaine join our team," Director Suhadolnik said. "With his strong background in human resources and labor relations, I am confident that he will do an outstanding job as Human Resources chief."

Brockman holds a Bachelor of Science in Natural Resources from The Ohio State University, and is completing his final year at Capital University Law School. Before coming to Commerce, Brockman served as the Assistant Chief of Human Resources with the Ohio Department of Development. Prior to that experience, Brockman worked with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources as a Game Protector, Park Officer and Labor Relations Officer.

The Human Resources section is part of the Division of Administration, which provides support services for the entire department. The section is responsible for a variety of services such as coordinating the hiring of new staff; setting employee policy and procedures; labor relations; training; FMLA; and Workers Compensation.

The Department of Commerce, with more than 800 employees, is responsible for numerous regulatory functions carried out by its divisions of Financial Institutions, Real Estate and Professional Licensing, Securities, Unclaimed Funds, Liquor Control, Industrial Compliance, and State Fire Marshal. It enforces regulations regarding fire codes, industrial compliance, financial institutions, real estate, auctioneers, unclaimed funds, and private investigators, among others.

Brockman replaces Gordon Gatien, who was appointed superintendent of the department's soon-to-be Division of Labor and Worker Safety. That division will be created on July 1 when the Bureau of Employment Services' Divisions of Occupational Safety and Health Administration and Wage and Hour merge into Commerce. Brockman is a resident of West Jefferson.
