THOMAS E. GEYER APPOINTED ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF COMMERCE

Debbie Dye Joyce Named Acting Commissioner of Securities

Director of Commerce Gary C. Suhadolnik appointed current Commissioner of Securities Thomas E. Geyer as Assistant Director of the Ohio Department of Commerce yesterday. He also appointed Debbie Dye Joyce as Acting Commissioner of Securities.

"Tom will bring his wealth of experience, his ability to motivate employees, his leadership and depth and breadth of knowledge to his new role," said Director Suhadolnik. "I am confident that he will do an outstanding job as Assistant Director of Commerce."

Geyer has served as Commissioner of the Division of Securities since 1996. Some of his accomplishments as Commissioner included establishing state-level oversight of investment advisers, implementing an internet monitoring program and adding interactive features to the Division’s website, launching an annual "Saving and Investing Education Week" program, and overseeing record numbers of licensed securities brokers and dealers. He provided testimony to the United States Congress on three occasions regarding the recent federal financial services modernization legislation. He is a frequent speaker on securities law topics, and he has written numerous articles, newspaper editorials and investor education brochures. He also serves as an adjunct professor, teaching Securities Regulation, at Capital University Law School.

From 1994 to 1996, Geyer served the division as an Enforcement Staff Attorney. Prior to joining the division, he worked as a corporate and securities attorney in private practice. Geyer received his law degree, with honors, from The Ohio State University College of Law and his undergraduate degree from the University of Notre Dame. He currently resides in Dublin.

Director Suhadolnik also appointed Debbie Dye Joyce as Acting Securities Commissioner. Dye Joyce currently serves as chief of the Registration Section in the Division of Securities. She has served at Commerce since 1986 in a variety of roles. Initially, she served as an Attorney Examiner for the division. She then became Chief Counsel for the Division of Savings and Loan Associations/Savings Banks in 1989. She assumed her current position in 1996.

Dye Joyce received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Miami University and her Juris Doctorate from Ohio Northern University Pettit College of Law. She resides in Hebron.

"Debbie knows the securities industry as well as anyone in Ohio," said Director Suhadolnik. "With almost 10 years of legal, supervisory, training and administrative responsibilities in the Division, she will do an exemplary job as Acting Securities Commissioner."
