The Ohio Department of Commerce Welcomes New Division
Two former Bureau of Employment Services divisions to join Commerce on July 1st
On July 1, 2000, two former divisions of the Ohio Bureau of Employment Services (OBES) will be integrated into one new Ohio Department of Commerce division. The new division will be located on the 28th and 29th floors of the LeVeque Tower, 50 West Broad Street.
Both the former division of Wage and Hour and the division of Occupational Safety and Health at OBES will become bureaus in the new Division of Labor and Worker Safety. The new division and its two bureaus come to Commerce as a result of the creation of the new state Department of Job and Family Services.
"Commerce has been working very hard to prepare for the arrival of our new division," said Director of Commerce Gary C. Suhadolnik. "We moved quickly to find a location, appoint quality leadership, review their operating procedures, welcome our new employees and make it a seamless transition for all involved."
Director Suhadolnik has appointed Gordon J. Gatien as Superintendent of the Division of Labor and Worker Safety. Gatien has served as chief of human resources at Commerce since 1995. Previously, he served as Labor Relations Administrator at the former Department of Industrial Relations (which joined Commerce as the Division of Industrial Compliance in 1995). He is a graduate of Capital University and currently resides in Dublin.
