THOMAS CASPERSON NAMED INTERIM EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

FOR THE OHIO AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE

The Board of Trustees of the newly formed Ohio Award for Excellence (OAE) has appointed Thomas Casperson as the organization’s interim executive director.  As interim executive director, Casperson will be responsible for running the program’s day to day operations including examinations, awards and finances.

“Tom Casperson has played a crucial role in the efforts to make Ohio organizations successful through the Ohio Award for Excellence.  When the OAE needed to fill this position, Tom’s credentials assured an excellent match,” said Susan Nagel, member of the OAE board of trustees and Director of Quality for the Ohio Department of Commerce, which provides support for OAE.  “Now, with Tom’s solid leadership and inspiring attitude, the program is assured continued success.”

Casperson received his B.S. in Business Administration from the Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, New York.  He also received an AAS in Real Estate Property Management from Sinclair Community College in Dayton.  He is currently on loan from the NCR Corporation, where he serves as the Director of Management System Assessments.

Casperson has worked at NCR for 34 years, starting as a salesperson to the retail industry and moving on to management positions in corporate market and product evaluation, corporate product release, Europe product marketing and global quality.  While NCR was a business unit under the AT&T Corporation, he served as project manager in 1994 and 1995 for the “Chairman’s Quality Award,” following the Baldrige format.  He was also appointed by the U.S. Department of Commerce to serve on the Board of Examiners of the Malcom Baldrige National Quality Award for 1997, 1998 and 1999.

Casperson currently resides Dayton.

The Ohio Award for Excellence was created to promote overall competitiveness and growth of Ohio-based organizations in domestic and global markets by developing and recognizing those organizations that practice measurable continuous improvement and utilize outstanding processes to achieve customer-focused performance excellence.

The award is open to all organizations in business, education, health care, government and not-for-profit sectors.  The award, presented annually, is based on criteria which covers the areas of leadership, strategic planning, customer focus, information and analysis, workforce development, process management and the business results achieved.
