Fireworks & Explosive Unit

Welcome to the Fireworks and Explosive Unit of the  State of Ohio, Fire Marshal's Office!

The Bureau's mission is to oversee the regulatory responsibilities of 43 fireworks wholesalers, 10 fireworks manufacturers, 19 fireworks shippers, and over 1,000 licensed fireworks exhibitors, registered assistants and flame effect technicians regulated by the State Fire Marshal.  The unit oversees:

• Fireworks wholesalers

• Fireworks manufacturers

• Fireworks shippers

• Fireworks Exhibitor License

• Fireworks Registered Assistant

• Flame Effect License

• Explosive magazine storage

The Fireworks and Explosive Unit is funded through an assessment of fire insurance premiums sold in Ohio. Additional funding is derived from licensure and renewal fees.
