PETER CHACE NAMED NEW CHIEF OF

THE BUREAU OF UNDERGROUND STORAGE TANK REGULATION

FOR THE OHIO DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE

Director of Commerce Gary C. Suhadolnik has appointed Peter Chace of Columbus as the new Chief of the Bureau of Underground Storage Tank Regulation (BUSTR), housed within the Division of State Fire Marshal.

"I am pleased to have Pete join our team," Director Suhadolnik said.  "With his background and leadership ability, I am confident that he will do an outstanding job as BUSTR’s chief."

Chace hold a Master’s of Science in Statistics from Miami University (Ohio).  He is also a doctoral candidate in statistics at The Ohio State University.  Before coming to Commerce, Chace worked as a researcher for the Battelle Memorial Institute.  Prior to that experience, Chace served as a statistics instructor at Ohio State, a mathematics and statistics instructor at Miami University, and as a United States Navy officer aboard the U.S.S. Carl Vinson.

In Ohio, BUSTR regulates underground storage tanks (USTs) storing either petroleum or certain hazardous substances.  A tank is considered an underground storage tank if the UST system (including its piping) has at least 10 percent or more of its volume below ground.  As Chief of BUSTR, Chace will oversee the daily operations of the bureau, advise the industry of changes in any rules and regulations, monitor corrective actions of USTs, and evaluate the implementation of the Revised 1999 Corrective Action Rule.

A native of Worthington, Chace currently resides in Columbus.
