Why: A committee was created to
improve the representation of women in the fire service. "Can You Take The Heat"
is their inagural event. It is a spin-off from the State Fire Marshal's successful
"Feel the Heat Day," which was developed to give public officials the
opportunity to learn first hand about the challenges faced by firefighters. Details: It will be a day for women to don fire gear, enter a burning building,
handle a charged hose, and use the jaws of life. Women who attend this will have an
opportunity to meet women who are firefighters. A panel discussion will be lead by five
veteran firefighters, and everyone will be encouraged to ask questions. Each segment
offers rare up close photo opportunities of firefighters and women interested in
firefighting participating in actual drills. Note: Media planning to attend "Can You Take The Heat" Day should contact
Lory Mitri or Bill Teets. Media can contact Lory Mitri by pager # 673-0254, on the day of
the event. # # # The Fire Marshal's Office trains firefighters, enforces the Ohio Fire Code,
