NORMAN MARTIN NAMED CHIEF ELEVATOR INSPECTOR

 

Director of Commerce Gary C. Suhadolnik has appointed Norman Martin to be Chief Elevator Inspector for the Ohio Department of Commerce’s Division of Industrial Compliance. He began serving in his new position on February 11.

 

Mr. Martin has 17 years experience in the elevator inspection field and has served as acting chief elevator inspector since 1998. Throughout his career, Norman has been a member of the National Association of Elevator Safety Authorities. In addition, he has served on the National BOCA Elevator Inspector Certification Testing Committee and is a recent alternate on the Main Committee for the ASME A17.1 National Elevator Code Committee.

 

Martin holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Arizona State University and a Masters of Public Administration from Kent State University.

 

“With Norman’s knowledge and experience in the elevator inspection field, I am confident that he will do an outstanding job in serving as Ohio’s Chief Elevator Inspector,” Director Suhadolnik said.

 

In his new position, Mr. Martin will oversee the Elevator Inspection Section. This section regulates the operation, maintenance and repair of elevator devices. Elevator devices inspected include passenger and freight elevators, handicapped lifts, dumbwaiters, special service elevators and stage lifts.

 

Martin resides in North Canton.

In addition to the Elevator Inspection Section, the Division of Industrial Compliance includes the following sections: Bedding and Upholstered Furniture, Boilers, Plumbing, Examiners of Steam Engineers, Pressure Piping, and Construction Compliance. It also includes the Board of Building Standards and the Board of Building Appeals, the Ohio Construction Industry Examining Board and the Ski Tramway Board. Other Commerce divisions enforce regulations regarding securities, financial institutions, labor and work safety, real estate, liquor, auctioneers, and unclaimed funds among others.
